Pigmentvlekken behandelen

Safely treat your pigmentation spots

Pigmentation spots are brown discolorations on the skin. These discolorations, including age spots, freckles, birthmarks, and pregnancy mask (melasma), can occur anywhere on the body, but especially on parts of the body that are frequently exposed to the sun. Pigment spots can be treated very successfully with our special IPL skin laser. Depending on your skin type and the color of your pigment spot, we will determine which laser treatment is best. You can laser cut pigment spots at our clinics in The Hague and Oegstgeest.

Which pigment spots can we treat?

FAQs

Everything you need to know about treating pigment spots
How does the laser and/or IPL work
The laser and/or IPL provides a light pulse on the skin that consists of a certain wavelength. The energy of this light is absorbed by pigmented skin and converted into heat. The pigment spot is heated strongly, so that it will then be destroyed. Over time, the pigment spot will be absorbed by the body and will disappear. On average, three to five treatments are required with an interval of at least 4 weeks.
Prior to treatment
Do not use the tanning bed, do not sunbathe and do not use self-tanning cream for four weeks prior to treatment. In case of unavoidable exposure to the sun's rays, use a sunscreen with a high protection factor, SPF 30 or higher. Do not use essential oils for two weeks prior to treatment!
During treatment
Pigment disorders can be treated with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or laser.

• The IPL technology (540nm) works on the basis of intensive flash light and is a selective treatment. This means that only the pigment spots react to the light, so there is no chance of damage to the rest of the skin. The short flash of light is like an elastic band shot against the skin. This feeling lasts so short that the treatment is usually well tolerated and the skin is hardly irritated.

• The laser also uses light energy. This laser is used for the slightly deeper pigment. Just like the IPL technique, the pigment spots are heated and will be strongly heated and destroyed. The treatment is easy to tolerate, the laser beam feels like a pinprick. The result is usually visible after several treatments. In some cases, the pigment spots will fade rather than disappear.
After laser treatment
After treatment, the skin may be (light) red. Sometimes scabs, blisters or bruises develop that heal on their own. Do not scratch any scabs. The treatment gives a darker discoloration of the treated area. Within one to two weeks, this will go away on its own. Swelling can also occur (especially in areas around the eye, cheeks, chin and lip). Cooling with ice packs can reduce this somewhat. The swelling is also temporary and will disappear within a few days. On the day of treatment, do not exercise intensively yourself, no hot baths or saunas. Use a sunscreen with a high protection factor until the next treatment.

Use Environ's Colostrum Gel and RAD SPF15 as a post-treatment. ZO Medical Oclipse SPF50 is also recommended for strong sun exposure.week 1 and 2: apply twice a day.week 3 and 4: apply once a day
