Now that it's summer, we try to catch every ray of sunshine. And especially with a heat wave like this, many people seek to cool off at the beach. The importance of consistently using the right UV protection is something that our skin therapists emphasize again during each intake. Prevention is better than cure. That is why it certainly doesn't hurt to take a moment to reflect on a few facts and tips.
UV radiation is the biggest cause of skin cancer and that diagnosis is unfortunately being made more and more often;
The number of skin cancer cases has increased by as much as 250% in the past 25 years;
Last year, 82,800 Dutch people were told that they have skin cancer. The year before, this number was still 70,000 (Sources: KWF, CBS).
Apply daily, even when it's not sunny, and use at least SPF 30;
Repeat this every two hours, and more often if you've swum or sweated a lot;
Stay out of the sun between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and seek shade;
Are you going out into the sun? Wear sun protection clothing, or a sun hat;
Check your skin regularly for suspicious spots and birthmarks that change in shape, color, or size. When in doubt, see a dermatologist.
Try to reduce the risks and so go out well protected. Looking for the right UV protection? Feel free to drop by our stores.
